"Only 20 percent of the clothes in the average person’s closet are worn on a regular basis", according to the chief design officer for California Closets, interviewed in The Wall Street Journal.
I found it so true after I have this winter10x10 challenge. I first knew this 10x10 concept from blogger Lee Vosburgh. And I got interested in it immediately.
As someone who loves styling but not a millionaire, I'm always passionate about being creative in styling. Besides, I'm trying to be a more responsible shopper after I knew how much waste the fashion industry creates everyday ("True cost" made a great documentary about it).
The rule of this challenge is to pick 10 items and create 10 styles. Accessories are excluded. You can also exclude your outwears if you are doing this for the first time. This is a very fun challenge for those who want to
- Take a break from shopping
- Figure out your styles
- Want to build a capsule closet
Lee also built a community for people who want to challenge themselves for styling. If you search #10x10friends on instagram, you will see fashion lovers are sharing their mix styling ideas. More guidance for this challenge: here.
Ok! Let's start to talk about my outfits now! Enjoy the blog with the music on(click play button):
My 10 Items pick
The 10 items I picked are mostly neutral color:
But I also add a pink cardigan
a forest green hoodie and a dark wine booties to make the mix more interesting.
My 10 Outfits
Look 1 - Sunday: Comfortable green and pink
I never want to sacrifice comfort for style. That is why cardigan and hoodie become my favorite items. Mixing them together makes a super casual and comfortable look. It is perfect for a Sunday when the only thing you do is stay at home(or grocery shopping).
In order to make the green hoodie more interesting, I also add a brighter green bag to match it (green one sold out. black one: here).
Look 2 - Monday: Layers
Monday is tough. So I want to have a cool outfit(just another reason to dress up :p).
This is one of my favorite mix: "Turtleneck with Shirt". Black and white color platte is so classic. They can go with anything.
The coat I choose is very special. It is a very common grey color but with a bright orange color block on the back. (They also have a dark chocolate with navy back one here.)
The bag I have to match this outfit is from called Yuzefi. I'm so obsessed with the rivets and round buckle on the bag.
Look 3 - Tuesday: Black and White
You never go wrong with black and white. I add a bright beige scarf to be warmer. I don't want to add more color. So I pick a silver bag to keep the whole outfit look cool and neutral.
Look 4 - Wednesday: Professional but stylish
Because this coat is very stylish, it will still look stylish even with a simple white shirt and jeans.
Oh, I forgot to mention this coat also has a detachable faux-fur collar. I add this back in this outfit, along with my mittens. To match the fur, I use my little round fluffy earrings from Madewell (sold out. but they always have stylish and affordable collections of jewelry).
Look5 - Thursday: Almost Friday! Be Creative :)
If you followed my instagram, you probably know I'm a vintage lover. When it is almost Friday, everything becomes so exciting! So for this day, I want to be more creative and fun.
I wear my favorite beret and use a skinny leopard scarf as my belt.
My head size is bigger than normal girls. This hat is actually a men size xl from urban outfitters (here). If you have the same problem and love hats like me, try shop in Men's.
The fringe bag from rebecca minkoff has a really beautiful wine color and matches my wine booties.
Color carmel, wine, leopard pattern, velvet jackt make this outfit perfectly vintage.
Look6 - Friday: Be colorful!
This is my favorite outfit in this challenge. The street style hoodie, beanie and the stylish earrings(here) make this outfit super cool.
Can you tell how many different colors in this look?
Look7 - Saturday: Girls date
This is a very soft look that I would like to wear when I hang out with my girl friends. I also use a brown belt and a long gold necklace to make this outfit a little bit more interesting.
Look 8 - Second Sunday
Scarf, especially big scarf is an very good accessory that can make a big change to your outfit.
Everything else in this outfit are very simple. So I choose a bright pink scarf to add more flavor.
Look 9 - Go back to Simple
I choose to wear all black under this grey coat with a classic black bag. I also choose a pair of minimal big hoop earrings, in order to stay simple.
Look 10 - Last style!
Green is a really magic color. It can make any dark color vivid, even the darkest.
Finally, These are all of my 10 outfits! Thanks for reading.
